Six countries of the European Union has opened the borders to Georgia without any preconditions. This was announced by Georgian foreign Minister David Zalkaliani in an interview with Imedi TV channel.

As Zalkaliani explained, when visiting Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, France and Hungary, Georgian citizens will not have to undergo a two-week quarantine.

"This is a list of countries that have opened their borders to Georgian citizens without any conditions. Based on this, we also think that there should be an adequate approach to these countries," the Georgian foreign Minister said.

As you know, Georgia is included in the list of 14 non-Schengen countries with which the external borders of the EU have been opened since July 1. However, all member States of the Association independently determine the conditions for crossing their national borders.

For example, Austria, Denmark, Romania and Bulgaria refuse to accept Georgian citizens at this stage. Other EU countries, including the Czech Republic, have said that they will open their borders with Georgia only on mutual terms. Italy has allowed Georgian citizens to enter, but self-isolation is mandatory for 14 days. Those wishing to visit Greece will need to fill out a special form and get a barcode. Similar measures are being introduced by Spain. Some EU members are only willing to accept third-country nationals if they submit the results of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) coronavirus test no later than 48 hours before the trip.

Due to the spread of coronavirus, Georgia has closed its borders to foreigners since March 18. It was expected that the reception of international tourists will resume from July 1, but this did not happen. The government of Georgia calls the cause of the difficult epidemiological situation in most countries of the world. At the same time, the authorities emphasize that taking care of the health of their own citizens is their main priority.

It is expected that until August 1, Georgia's airports will accept Charter flights operated by several airlines.
