Farmland belonging to two Yazidi tribes in Shangal was seized by the Arabs with the help of Iraqi Shiite militias, the official said.

Most members of the Yazidi religious minority still live in IDP camps in Kurdistan, despite the fact that their areas have been liberated from the control of the Islamic state terrorist group. They are reluctant to return to their areas, which are currently controlled by the Shia Hashd al-Shaabi militia.

Speaking to BasNews on Wednesday, Jauhar Ali Bagh, a spokesman for the Yazidi World, said that the Arabs had seized their land and had already started farming with the support of Hashd al-SHAABI.

"These lands belong to the Smokiya and Kairana tribes," Ali Bagh said, calling on the Iraqi government to immediately take action and return the lands to their rightful owners.

As part of the arabization campaign waged by the former Iraqi governments against the Kurds, these lands in Shangala were taken from the Yazidis and given to the Arabs in 1974.

However, after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003, the land was returned to its original owners, the Yazidis, with official documents.
