Most likely, Georgia will be included in the list of non-European countries for which the European Union will open its borders in the near future. This was stated by the Minister of economy and sustainable development of Georgia Natia Turnava.

Earlier, the European Commission called on all EU countries to open their internal borders by June 15. The EC recommended that the gradual opening of the external borders begin on July 1. At the same time, according to EU norms, all legal decisions on border crossing procedures are made not by EU institutions, but by the governments of its member States.

"It is very encouraging that our efforts have brought efforts, and we are very likely to be on the list of countries with which the EU will first open a communication. So far, this is only a project. The merit of our common efforts is that Georgia is a safe country, " Turnava told reporters.

According to her, the authorities "value this achievement" and do not want to part with the status of a country that successfully overcame the first wave of the coronavirus epidemic.

"That is why we decided to postpone regular flights for another month, until August 1. This means that we will not open all flights, but Charter flights will not be discontinued. This will be a controlled, very well-managed process of coordination, which will be provided by epidemiologists," the Minister said.

The Georgian authorities planned to start resuming regular international flights from July 1, but due to the deterioration of the situation with coronavirus in different countries of the world, this date was postponed to the end of July.

Starting from July 1, the ban on foreigners entering Georgia will partially cease to apply. It is expected that at the first stage, separate facilitated regulations will be introduced for businessmen and foreign students.
