Village of Arshalus The life of the Yezidis in Armenia

Arshalus village  is located in Armavir province of the Republic of Armenia. A local resident of the village Siband Msto Sadoyan said that Arshalus is an Armenian-Yazidi village,where 54 еYazidi families live, the total number  of the village is more than 1200 families.

According to Siaband Sadoyan, the village of Arshalus was founded more than three centuries ago. In the thirties of the twentieth century, the village was renamed Arshalus s(translated from Armenian as "morning dawn"»).

The social situation is average, identicalе with other villages in this area. The main part of the population is engaged in cattle breeding, horticulture, greenhouses and agricultureм. A fast-growing village that has stable earnings and income. There is a secondary school in the village, where more than 670 children study. In addition to the school program, children are taught their native Yazidi language. After finishing school in the village, many graduates continue their studies for secondary or higher education. There is many excellent students among Yazidi children, for example, this year's graduate Anna Tamoev Khalilyan, the only one in the school who is called as the "best student of the year".

The villageе иhas its own intelligentsia. Kocho Bakr Sadoyan, who graduated from the Polytechnic Institute, has been working as an engineer at the Armenian nuclear power plant for more than forty years, and his nephew, who also works as an engineer, works there. Otto Sadoyan, worked as a teacher.

ВIn  2014 году 2014, 73 yazidi families еof refugees who were left with nothing and were living in Deir ez-Zor camps were sheltered in the village. Unfortunately, the village has been affected by emigration, there are many abandoned houses.
