International financial organizations will help Georgia overcome the economic crisis caused by the pandemic

International financial organizations promise to provide rapid support to Georgia to overcome the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This is stated in an open letter from the ambassadors of France, Germany and the European Union, as well as representatives of leading financial institutions.

On the theme: The European Bank for reconstruction and development has included Georgia in the " solidarity package»

"The Georgian authorities, the public and private sectors, as well as the Georgian people have met the pandemic very firmly and with a cooperative approach. Quick and decisive actions have become crucial in curbing the spread of the virus and have received a well-deserved international assessment, " the message reads.

The authors of the letter remind that Georgia is already developing "schemes to support businesses and vulnerable groups", as well as a recovery plan for the post-crisis period. In their opinion, successful structural reforms implemented in the past years, as well as accumulated reserves, will help the country cope with economic problems.

At the same time, taking into account the unprecedented nature of this crisis, Georgia will need large investments and financial support, " the message reads.

It is about both the needs of the health sector in the face of an epidemic, and supporting vulnerable businesses and households "to withstand the shock, continue investing in vital infrastructure, bridge the gap in the country's finances, and prepare to restore economic sustainability."

On the theme: The European Union will allocate 183 million euros to Georgia to fight the pandemic

"The Asian development Bank, the Asian infrastructure investment Bank, the European Bank for reconstruction and development, the European Union and the European investment Bank, the Federal Republic of Germany (through KfW), the French Republic (through Agence Française de Développement), the international monetary Fund and the world Bank group are working together to provide rapid support to Georgia. A substantial package of financial assistance is currently being discussed to help the authorities respond effectively to this unprecedented crisis," the letter said.

The authors of the appeal add that "many other development partners are also preparing assistance packages for the people of Georgia".
