Hasso Hurmi

Below are some of the themes from a new nonfiction book called "Yazidi Women and genocide", which is the seventh book in the ISIS and Yazidi genocide series.

Hasso Hurmi met with commander Qasim Shishu and his wife, a haseh fighter for whom her gender is not an obstacle to carrying weapons, to fight against ISIS. The women of Shangal are known to be fighting ISIS alongside men. These women serve in official or semi-official organizations and are subordinate (Peshmerga and Shangal protection forces). Their teams are engaged in the liberation of kidnapped people who have fallen into slavery.

Women's participation against ISIS

Yazidi women took part in protest marches against ISIS, whether in European and American countries or inside Iraq, so Yazidi women and their friends from other countries played their part. An important place for demonstrations by asserting positions of solidarity and protest, starting with the first demonstration in front of the European Parliament in Brussels, condemning the criminal actions of ISIL on August 8, 2014.

The demonstrations and protests that took place in many countries highlighted the positive role of women in intensive attendance and active participation, and this interaction of women with the problem of captivity and trafficking of Yazidi women.

European countries have learned of human rights violations, systematic rape and other international crimes, and thus the woman has become the face and apex of the Yazidi problem and her voice through her extensive participation in demonstrations that were organized to protest that Yazidis and other religious minorities in the region of Shangal and Nineveh were attacked.

Women activists have left their mark in organizations and the media.

Since 2014, many civil society and aid organizations have been working, and other new organizations have been created for the needs of displaced victims, survivors, and victims of genocide.

The activities of these organizations ranged from assisting victims in their quest for justice through documentation and awareness-raising processes, judicial work at the local, national or international level, and between providing some financial assistance and providing medical and psychological assistance. This is not the level, but it is part of an ongoing movement that is considered a positive approach in favor of the Yazidi woman by providing assistance to her family.

Here, it is important for us to emphasize the success and excellence of the work of many Yazidi activists, especially those in the teams of these local and international organizations at all levels of aid, development and legal rights, as well as in the form of voluntary or simple wages to serve displaced persons and the families of victims and survivors.

Followers know that the media scene in Iraqi Kurdistan has seen a clear presence of women from the media over the past five years, which has contributed to changing the stereotype of women in General.

Minority women have made a significant contribution to this media mission, as their role in social media and media channels has emerged to raise awareness of Yazidi women's issues.

A Yazidi survivor who was held captive and enslaved by ISIS calls on the free world to help the victims of the genocide and achieve justice.
