Agricultural markets in Telavi (Kakheti region) and Senaki (Samegrelo region) will be closed from Monday due to non-compliance with sanitary standards and recommendations in force during the state of emergency.

In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, a month-long state of emergency has been declared throughout Georgia since March 21. Since March 31, the country has introduced a General quarantine and curfew – from 21:00 to 06:00, citizens are forbidden to go outside without a special pass.Economic activity in the country is limited. Administrations of shopping facilities that continue to operate should take care of the social distance between customers, avoid large gatherings, and strictly monitor compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards.

According to the Public broadcaster, the Telavi market administration has received a recommendation to close from the National food Agency. The decision to close the market in Senaki was made by a special staff headed by the Governor of the province of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Alexander Motserelia. The press service of the Governor said that on March 2, the agricultural market received recommendations, but they were not implemented.

According to the decision of the similar headquarters of the Shida Kartli region, six agricultural markets have already been closed in the region. All agricultural markets in Batumi also stopped working. Due to non-compliance with the recommendations, the Ozurgeti market has also been closed since April 4. In addition, street trading is completely prohibited in the municipality. It is not yet known when the markets will resume working.
