On March 15, 2020, unknown persons destroyed and destroyed almost 50 graves in the Yazidi cemetery in Nineveh.

Rajab Asim Kakayei, head of the Mitra development and culture organization, confirmed to the Yazidi news Agency that the party behind the incident is seeking to create an atmosphere of sectarian strife between Yazidis and Arabs. This leads to demographic changes in our districts. There were early precedents for such an act of vandalism.

In the late 1990s, Jund al-Islam destroyed Yazidi graves in the Khawar cemetery East of Halabja, followed by the Arabization of the Ali Saray cemetery West of the Dahuk district in 1997, and the excavation of ancient Yazidi tombs in the cemetery in 2012.

He then added that this act is no less than the criminal acts of ISIL, which have blown up and destroyed all religious shrines in our regions, and these heinous actions are aimed at hiding our historical monuments and purifying our memories, as well as as a cultural genocide that contributes to the destruction of the entire Yazidi people.

He also added that we are asking the relevant authorities in the Kurdistan regional government that the region is under its authority, and after they have been informed of serious interference. We demand an investigation of the case in order to solve the crime. The human rights Commission and the relevant authorities in the government of Iraq have also been informed. We hope that international organizations will learn about these crimes.
