Yazidis ' views differ on the statement of the Iraqi Ministry of culture on the inclusion of the Holy temple of Lalish in the preliminary world heritage list, which the Ministry intends to submit to UNESCO for inclusion in the world heritage list in addition to other archaeological, cultural and natural sites.

The Lalish temple is the seat of the spiritual Council of the Yazidis in the world, and it is a sacred site for Yazidis located in the mountainous area of Sheikhan district, about 60 km Northwest of the city of Mosul in Northern Iraq.

The announcement by the Ministry of culture was met with indignation from some Yazidis, who see it as a negative step aimed at raising the sanctity and religious authority of Lalish, where the former head of the Yazidi Movement for reform and progress, Amin Farhan Jeju, said on his Facebook page: "There are parties that have tried and are trying in various ways to destroy religion."

In turn, the young khayri Suleiman said that "the cultural and civilizational heritage represented by archaeological sites is included in the list of world heritage sites and often refers to past peoples."

For his part, Diyar al-Akhtari, a civil and creative actor at the Lalish Temple, confirmed to the ezdina website that " the advantages of UNESCO's attempt to include the Lalish Temple in the list of world heritage protection are greater than its disadvantages, because the temple will be under international protection in terms of preserving its historical, religious and natural features."

Al-Khatari added that " the concerns published by some parties for fear of obligations entailing their inclusion in the world heritage List are inaccurate, since a coordinating Committee will be established between Yazidis and international bodies, and the Committee will register the temple as the property of people of this religion with documents in accordance with international norms and laws."

Al-Akhtari pointed out that they asked the Iraqi government to comply with this requirement, stressing that this initiative is in the interests of the Yazidis, since no one would dare to attack the temple of Lalish al-nurani, as happened in recent decades during the Yazidi genocide by the Ottoman Empire at various stages.

It is worth noting that the Minister of culture, tourism and antiquities, Dr. Abd al-Amir al-Hamdani, announced on March 1 that the Lalish temple was added to the preliminary world heritage list, which the Ministry intends to submit to UNESCO along with archaeological, historical and natural sites in order to obtain permission from the international organization to include it in the world heritage List, which is part of a cultural, tourist and archaeological project.
