The second stage of obtaining a construction permit will be the study of the project's impact on the environment.

APM Terminals Poti, which owns the Poti port, has received a land use permit, which is the initial stage of a three-stage procedure for obtaining a permit for the construction of a deep-water Marina, the company said in an official statement.

The company wants to expand the Marina in Poti so that Georgia will have modern logistics gates that will serve Panamax-type ships.

To start construction, the company must go through two more stages. The second stage is to study the project's impact on the environment and develop detailed documentation, which also requires close cooperation with the government to ensure that the project is implemented in a timely manner," the statement said.

The final stage is the search for optimal ways of construction, the transition to the operational stage in favor of logistics companies and the cargo supply chain.

The expansion project of the port

The entire APM Terminals Poti project is planned to be implemented in 24-30 months. It will consist of two phases.

The first phase involves the construction of a mole with a length of 1.7 thousand meters and a multi-functional berth with a length of 400 meters and a depth of 13.5 meters, which will allow the port to receive vessels up to 9 thousand TEU and will allow the processing of bulk and other cargo with an additional volume of 150 thousand TEU.

The second phase involves the construction of a container berth 300 meters long, where three mooring cranes will be located, which will make it possible to increase the annual cargo capacity to 1 million TEU.

The company plans to operate with dry cargo. This is metal from the entire region, fertilizers, as well as grains from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
