Yazidi girl from Iraq brought to Armenia for surgery

This week, a 5-year-old Yazidi girl, Aizad, was brought from the Iraqi city of Zaho to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, for an operation. Earlier, at home, she was found to have a congenital heart defect. Iraqi doctors recommended surgery as soon as possible, but aizad's family could not afford the expensive surgery abroad.

Mirza Dinay, a Yazidi human rights activist and Aurora prize winner, learned about the family's situation.with the support of the Ministry of Health of Armenia, he organized Aizad's visit to Yerevan for the operation.

"She had severe shortness of breath, pain in the heart and turned blue in the eyes. Iraqi doctors told us that we had little chance. But their Armenian colleagues gave us hope that we'll be fine,"— said in an interview with channel 1 TV SUAL Hadade, the girl's mother.

Yazidi Deputy of the national Assembly of Armenia Rustam Bakoyan and representatives of the local Diaspora visited Aizad in the hospital. Rustam Bakoyan also took an active part in the arrival of the girl from Iraq.
