The challenges of the Georgian elections
In recent years, observers have not recorded any special violations in the elections in Georgia. For example, casting ballots, carousels and "dead souls" - thanks to the introduction of new technologies in the electoral process: lists with photos, the process of marking before entering the polling station and electronic identity cards, which are almost impossible to fake.
However, the opposition believes that the ruling Georgian dream-democratic Georgia party, having financial and administrative resources, will still try to influence the course of the elections, and intends to counter this with the joint efforts of the signatories.
"It is important to coordinate the work of the democratic opposition to protect every vote and prevent election manipulation," the Memorandum says.
At the same time, the parties intend to cooperate even in those single-member districts where they are competitors, and not only in Tbilisi, where all 26 parties have formed a coalition without signing a Memorandum.
The ruling party itself has already approved amendments to the Electoral code of Georgia, which eliminated some of the problems in the electoral process, including in terms of manipulation and pressure on voters.
The amendments prohibit the use of administrative resources, including advertising government achievements. The problem of party agitators near polling stations has also been solved.
